Wenger's reaction to the Arsenal 1-1 Liverpool match

on Liverpool’s late equaliser…
We conceded the penalty after 11 minutes [of stoppage time] and the injury time was [supposed to be] eight minutes. It was no penalty and I don’t see where the three minutes came from.

on whether he thought it was a penalty…
No, because there was no intervention from [Emmanuel] Eboue. It was Lucas who stood in his way and stopped his run to the ball. Eboue went for the ball and not for the player.

on where the result leaves Arsenal’s title hopes…
I don’t know, we dropped two points today. It was a difficult game against a Liverpool team who defended a lot and basically only defended. It was difficult for us to create chances because they defended very deep. When they had the ball they played long so it was important not to make mistakes at the back. They defended well, like most of the Premier League teams that come here now.

on failing to create many clear-cut opportunities…
Liverpool defended very deeply. Every time we had the ball we played eight against ten men in their half. You have to respect the quality of the defending as well. We tried everything to create chances. We had a few and that is what these kind of games are about. Sunderland and Liverpool both came with the same attitude. At the moment we have problems to create plenty of chances, it’s true. But we are maybe jaded a bit physically as well. You could see that some players have played around 40-45 games and we lack a little bit of a change of pace, but we tried very hard.

on this season’s setbacks…
We will have to give everything until the last game of the season and see if it is our year or not. We have been badly done, that’s what you can say, in the last three home games. Against Sunderland we scored a regular goal and we didn’t get a penalty that was 100 per cent [a penalty]. It’s a period where we have not had the biggest luck, that is for sure.

on what the referee said to him after the game…
He did not explain anything to me.

on Manchester United losing against Manchester City…
It is about us winning our games. The hope is always there but, to keep the hope alive, it is up to us to win our games and to win our next game. We are on a 15-game unbeaten run but recently we have not taken enough points.
