Wenger - Sunday will show our title strength

Arsène Wenger DOES believe Sunday’s game at Chelsea will indicate the possibility of Arsenal’s title ambitions this season.

In the past the Arsenal manager has been reluctant to add to the hype surrounding ‘Big Four’ clashes however, ahead of this weekend’s game, he suggested a lot was riding on the 90 minutes.

“It will certainly give an indication of the strengths of the two sides, that is for sure,” said the Frenchman.

“It’s not too early because it is a confrontation between two top teams. I don’t think it is a decisive game but it is a good indicator about the strengths in the Premier League.”

Frankly, recent history is against Arsenal. Chelsea have won their last four games against Wenger’s men but, speaking at Friday’s press conference, the manager suggested three reasons why his side can repeat their triumph of two seasons ago.

“Our potential, our performance, our desire to win the game,” he said. “History does not win you games."

“We have had a game since the defeat to West Brom where we played quite well in the Champions League."

"Chelsea are in the same situation - they lost the game before but played in the Champions League, so on that front we are on the same level."

“If we turn up with a great performance - and I am convinced we will - we will beat them. Football is always down to the performance of the day.”
